At New Moon, Saturday, May 8, 7 pm150 Cherry Street, Burlington
APRIL 29, BURLINGTON – New Moon café is hosting a party on Saturday evening, May 8, showcasing uniquely American music and rare Ugandan art.
The artwork, by former child soldiers of Uganda, has been a means of healing the psychological wounds inflicted on these children in wartime.
Arising out of nightmarish experiences, yet full of hope for the future, this very moving artwork will be for sale. Proceeds will be used to dig wells and provide safe drinking water in the villages where the children live.
The strong visual impact of this exhibit will be complemented by Jason Harrod’s powerful musical personality.
Jason Harrod began his musical career as half of the popular folk duo Harrod & Funck. Now a solo artist, Harrod has become an award-winning songwriter with a growing national reputation. For more information, visit: http://www.jasonharrod.com
The evening at New Moon will be strong on music, also featuring the local group Blue Skys Below, visit www.myspace.com/blueskysbelow
“Basically we want people to have fun,” said New Moon manager Matt Beer, “while helping these young children rebuild their lives.”
Cover is $5. Donated laptop computers, new or used, are  also especially welcome.
The art exhibit has been brought from Uganda to Burlington by Freedom in Creation, an organization that offers former child soldiers therapeutic art classes and raises funds for safe drinking water in Uganda. For more information, visit: http://www.freedomincreation.org
